Called by some the “Las Vegas of the Middle East,” the City of Dubai has attracted tremendous levels of international interest in recent years, including speculative real estate investment. Relatively poor in terms of petroleum wealth, the tiny Emirate of Dubai today stands as a vibrant hub of international commerce and trade. Rising out of the blowing sand and dust of a sun-beaten desert into the humid, hazy skies of the Persian Gulf Coast, the mélange of cutting edge architecture that is the Dubai City skyline stands as a monument to humanity's collective will over the environment.
