Weather patterns were rather tranquil across the United States during the first half of winter 2011-2012, but elsewhere in the world, stormy conditions prevailed. The previous issue covered a major superstorm that grazed Alaska on November 9 (see the January/February 2012 issue of Weatherwise). For this puzzle we visit Europe, where a similar weather system was making headlines during the very first week of 2012.
