Meteorology Manager for SOPP
Christine Blais is one of the meteorology managers for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Office of Polar Programs (SOPP). As the administrator in charge of forecasting, she spends part of her time overseeing forecast operations at the remote facility in Charleston, North Carolina, and part of her time “on the ice,” where she is currently spending the austral summer supporting polar research programs and operations. She spent eight years as a forecaster and a forecast instructor for the United States Air Force. In 2009, four years after leaving the Air Force, she took a contract position as a forecaster in Antarctica. Between 2009 and 2010, she spent 14 months at the bottom of the world. Since then, she has returned multiple times.
