Gulf Stream Research Powered by the Sun
Having already circumnavigated the earth, the world's largest solar-powered boat is getting a second life as a research vessel. This summer, the 102-foot catamaran Planet Solar embarked on an expedition to collect continuous oceanographic and atmospheric data during a 5,000-mile trip from Miami to Norway. Data gathered on the trip, which will primarily follow the Gulf Stream, is expected to provide important information that could improve weather prediction and climate change models.
