Retrospect

It is one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable paintings in American art: Emanuel Leutze's oil painting “Washington Crossing the Delaware.” At 12 feet tall and more than 20 feet wide, it commands a level of attention, from visitors who gaze upon it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, that is worthy of the scene it depicts.
