On the Job

As an atmospheric scientist, John Cassano studies polar weather and climate, having spent 12 field seasons in the Antarctic over the last 20 years. As an associate professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, he's bringing his passion for cycling into the classroom. His bike-mounted weather station sheds light on temperature variability on the micro-scale and gets students excited about meteorology.

KIMBRA CUTLIP is a freelance writer and former assistant editor for Weatherwise.
