International Weather Highlights 2014: Winter Storms, Typhoons, Hurricanes, and Flooding

Although eastern North America endured a fierce winter, much of the rest of the world registered above-normal warmth, making 2014 the warmest year on record for the globe. A historical snowstorm struck Japan, a powerful hurricane wrecked Mexico's Baja resort region, and hurricanes struck Bermuda twice in one week. Pakistan and northern India experienced catastrophic flooding, and cyclones struck Japan, India, China, and the Philippines. Nevertheless, global weather casualties and costs were below average.
